sad end for a village ‘institution’

Langley Vale Pre-school, once Epsom Downs Playgroup announced that after 55 years plus, it would be closing its door for the very last time on Friday the 20th of September 2024.

Their sad message was:

We feel privileged to have been a part of your children's journeys over the years and we hope everyone who has attended and been involved with our setting will have fond memories of your time spent with us.

Thank you to all of you and our Village community for your support over the years.

Love your Langley Vale Pre-school Team ❤️

Langley Vale Pre School / Epsom Downs Playgroup - a thank you xx

Many people wrote  fond comments on the Facebook post  and  there is a memory book for thank you messages & photos, to celebrate the wonderful role that the preschool / playgroup & all it's staff have played in the lives of so many people of Langley Vale.Should you wish to contribute, the book will be atthe village hall on Saturday  21 September and for a while afterwards.

A sale of the various pieces of equipment the school had accumulated  was held.

This was really sad news for the village and the LVVH Association Committee wish all the staff and children  the very best for the future.

PETS SERVICE - 30 JUNE

What a beautiful pet service at St Stephens, the weather held out and we had dogs 🐶 , horses 🐴 , tortoises 🐢 and cuddly toys 🧸

Thanks to everyone that helped out and attended. Let’s show the church that we really do love our little village church and all of the memories that it holds. ❤️

Take a look at some scenes from the day …

Village lottery - 1st quarter 2024

Congratulations  to the winners of the 1st Village Lottery draw of 2024. Thank you for everyone’s continued support of our village hall.

Bingo - 24 April

On a really chilly evening the hall was packed  and everyone had a great time socialising and playing Bingo.  This culminated in the final full house prize of £200!

N.B. There won’t be a Bingo night in May because it clashes with Ladies Day but  don’t forget to book a table for the next session on 28 June.

Sharon  Watkinson and Sue Seldon had noticed at previous sessions that our expert caller, Russell Goodyear, had a tendency to misplace his glass  of Guinness. This was while he was moving round greeting everyone and introducing new comers to the rules of Bingo. To try and alleviate this stress for him, on top of keeping control of an often raucus group of participants they bought him a special Guiness  glass personalised with his name and ‘Best Bingo Caller’

In a Facebook post he wrote:

A very special thank to Sharon Watkinson and Sue Seldon for my very own personalised Guinness glass given to me at last week’s Bingo…..I’ll never lose my glass again…..Thank you ladies 💞

🎶 🥳 The Celebration Bingo Friday evening saw a record breaking 123 bingoers dobbing away in a packed village hall with a whopping prize pot of £640….our biggest ever…..congratulations to all the winners 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

So a massive thank to everyone who came along Friday night and to the previous 68 bingo nights over the last 9 years, your support of the village hall has been amazing. 🫶🏼

No Bingo at the end of March as it’s Good Friday so your Next Bingo is Friday 26th April

One last shout out to Martin, Mhairi, Rosie, Katie, Nicky and her pre school ladies and everyone that tidies away at the end of the evening

See  the gallery below to see everyone having a good time and  some lucky winners . Also note Russell  at the start of an evening of calling and keeping us entertained and him and Juliet cleaning  the floor at the end of a long evening .

      Bingo - 29th January

A very successful  opening to the new year with a packed hall and a final full house prize of £200! You can see all our happy faces in the photo and Sean christened the naughty chair!
