VE Day 80 Celebrations - 8 May

The hall was setup ready to show the Memorial Service later and an exhibition of WWII memorabilia, generously lent by various members of the community, was set out. At 9.30am the commemorative flag was raised. At noon the Memorial Service from Westminster Abbey was streamed for those who gathered. At 2 pm the Celebration Tea started with about 30 people joining during the afternoon, enjoying the copious tea and coffee, the variety of scones and cakes and the friendly chatter and reminiscences.

VE Day at the Village Hall ended at 6.30pm with a bell rung outside to echo those around the country. Later many people from the village went up to the downs to see the beacon lit.
Again it's thanks to Kim Shrosbree’s planning and Tom Pope’s  hard work that all this was able to happen.

VE Day 80 Street Party - 5 May

The hall was decorated inside and out and first thing Bank Holiday Monday the Committee gathered to close the road, put up more banners, and setup tables and chairs and the flowers and pots generously donated by Frances Suttonwood were displayed.

At noon people started to assemble and then everyone, about 120 people, took their seats and started to party. Although those not lucky enough to be under cover had to retreat to the hall later to avoid the rain, it was a very enjoyable and friendly afternoon.

While the Committee assisted, it is thanks to Kim Shrosbree’s organisation and Tom Pope’s hard work that it all happened. As Kim wrote in her FB post:

‘What a great, if a little chilly, day, fab to see everyone come together to mark such an important day. Thank you to everyone who came and huge thanks to everyone who helped with making it happen 🇬🇧🇬🇧’

Bingo - 25 April

A great, if noisy night, at the Easter Bingo with a grand prize of £200 for the final full house.

Thanks as always go to the team of Russell, Rosie, Marie and Katy giving their time to keeping these evenings going so successfully.

Easter Service - 20 April

What a lovely Easter Service led by Andrew, with over 45 people in attendance it shows just how much our village needs its Church back.

The  Easter Bunny was super leading the children round the garden for the Easter egg hunt!

10th Birthday Bingo - 28 February

Oh what a night!

The hall was packed and the atmosphere was buzzing with everyone happy to see friends and ready to celebrate. Russell welcomed everyone to this special night.
The bingo games started and the noise subsided except when reacting, for example with a ‘knock at the door’ for No 4 or singing along as certain numbers were called. 50 always had a good rendition of ‘Hawai 5 0’ but 45 was sometimes poorly supported with ‘Halfway There’ unless prompted  by Russell.

During the interval many individual birthdays were celebrated and a specially decorated cake to commemorate the occasion was paraded then shared out. Then Chairman of the  Association Committee, Sean Porter,  recited a poem to thank Russell Goodyear for his 10 years of dedicated Bingo Calling and presented him with a Silver Cup and a special t-shirt with bingo calls listed (in the photo gallery Russell can be seen celebrating the successful night wearing the t-shirt and drinking his favoured Guinness from the cup after everyone had gone home.) Flowers were presented by the Secretary, Juliette Gaule, to the hard-working floor team of Katy & Rosie Goodyear and Mhairi Watts who have backed Russell so well over the years.

The  Bingo continued in the second half with the celebrating getting louder, the singing getting sometimes better but also often worse than in the first half. The full house prizes were growing in value until the 12th prize of the night of £250 was finally won.

It was all over and time to go home, with everyone looking forward to the next bingo session on 4 April.

31 January - New Year Bingo

    A great start to 2025.
A well attended Bingo session started with ‘Olde Lang Syne’, migrated through 6 games, several ‘Happy Birthdays‘, a lot of fun and camaraderie and culminated in a grand final prize of £200!

The next session is our 10th birthday celebration on 26 February. Why not contact Russell to reserve a table and join us?
